I just rocked a vest to work, today. I layered it just right, I have a fall jacket which is definitely too cold for this weather but when combined with my vest it is perfect. Its not overly bulky, nor was I cold, nor am I married but it was cool. Bubble vest + fall jacket works as well. Bubble vest + button down is just stupid. The bubble vest is not an item for a novice.
