KiKi Vandeweghe is a chump

Former NBA player and Nets GM KiKi Vandeweghe (often confused with Kiki Shepard) was named as the new head coach of the New Jersey Nets yesterday, and instantly pulled a punk move.  You see the 0-17 Nets have tied the record for the worst start in NBA history, and are looking to “Ki-double” to make the sorry bunch of losers “get better.”  As GM of the Nets for the past 2 years, one would think that Vandeweghe would have some team pride, and want to jump right into it, but oh no.

See here’s the thing, his hiring was announced Monday Nov. 30th, and their next game is Wednesday Dec. 2nd.  That seems like plenty of time to start to whip the team into shape, or at least begin to try.  I mean, it’s not as if he has to relocate his family or anything?  But “Kiks” isn’t a stupid man.  New Jersey’s next game is against the number 3 Dallas Mavericks, who at 13-5 and 1.5 games out of first place will inevitably win.  So why hold out you ask?  Because “Vandy” knows that as soon as he decides to coach that game, he becomes “the coach that allowed the worst start in NBA history.”  Not that he coached the first 17 games, or any in his life for that matter, but he will still be in the books as the guy who was the coach when the New Jersey Nets set the record for the worst start in NBA history.

I understand the theory of  C.Y.A , and often practice it myself.  But if you have been “a Net” all this time, and helped to dismantle the team beyond repair, why are you now running to hide in a cave?  You traded Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson away in 2008.  Then this year you traded away Vince Carter, who was basically your only good player.  I understand that you’re trying to make room in the salary cap for LeBron James or whoever else your owner can get Jay-Z to convince to come over to your band of garbage men, but don’t hide now.  The organization that you Generally Managed made this so.  In other words, you helped to make this mess of a bed, so lay your not-quite-seven-foot ass in it.  You’ve never coached a game in your life, and your team is trash.  Trust me, there are a lot worse reputations to come than “the guy who’s first day was the day the Nets set the record for the worst start in NBA history.”   They should write this scenario down on your Wikipedia page, so the world knows you’re a punk.
