Hey listen cell phone designers, let me give you some real advice that may help your cause. When something comes out and sets the standard, it is basically impossible to create a superior version of that. Not that you physically can’t do it, but human beings like name recognition, and that is one fact that no one can ever compete with. Before the Ipod came out, there were mp3 players, but no one cares because we all have Ipods. Before Timberland boots came out, there were beige construction boots, but no one wears beige construction boots, they wear Timberlands. The same is definitely true of cell phones. Unless you simply don’t care about technology (which is totally fine), your two choices of smartphones are Blackberries, and Iphones, period. There are no other smartphones that mean anything. Blackberries are better because you get your emails right away, if that’s important to you than that’s what you need. If you don’t care about that and you want to have your Ipod, internet, email (that you may have to wait 15 mins for), and phone in one, and you love stupid apps., get an Iphone. If you get any other phone, your phone is simply inferior. That being said, Motorola is dropping the “Droid” on 11/6/09 through Verizon. Their ad. campaigns target the Iphone, and without flat out saying “we’re better,” say “we’re better.” Listen, we get it. It’s a touch screen, and it does a lot of cool stuff, maybe even stuff that Iphones can’t do, but it’s not going to work. The world is not going to start carrying Motorola Droids instead of Blackberries and Iphones, they’re just not. There are phones that are cute, like the T-Mobile touch screen phone. I respect them because they aren’t trying to say “this is better than the best phone,” they are just simply trying to co-exist, which is fine. My point is that from a business perspective, why would Motorola even try? Man, somebody needs to give me a couple hundred million a year and let me run their company. I can’t promise I’d make any advancements, but I promise I won’t allow stupid decisions to come to fruition. Check the droid out for yourself HERE and tell me what you think?
